Remote Desktop Slow Windows 10

I paid around $3000 to purchase a Thinkpad P51 (64GB ECC memory with Xeon processor and 2 TB ssd drive). Unfortunately, the RDP from desktop to the new P51 is as slow as a snail.

After struggle for a few weeks, I gave up and have to go back to work on my $600 HP notebook now. If you consider to buy a P51 and you want to work on multiple monitor and hence need to RDP to your notebook. Here is my story.I received my new notebook, the $3000 powerhouse. I set it up and retired and replaced my $600 HP notebook.

To my surprise, I found the RDP (remote desktop) connection is too slow to use effectively. As monitor tends to have small monitor, I use two or three monitors. I run RDP client (which is part of MS windows 7) on my desktop machine to access my old HP notebook.

It works perfectly. Now, I do the same thing with thinkpad P51.

Basically, my desktop and my notebook are next to each other on the same LAN. Actually, they are connected to each other by ethernet cable (not WIFI) through a smart network switch. I do not change anything, just unplug my old HP notebook and plug in my new thinkpad P51. Now, after I type two letters, the first started to show up. If I just use my machine to browse internet, I do not care too much.

However, I pay $3000 for a powerful machine, and I expect much more than browsing internet. I am a programmer, and this type lag make my work very painful. I simply cannot work this way. Another inconvenience is that I used RDP connection sync my business unit to log in Bloomberg terminal running on my notebook. I works perfectly with my HP notebook. As this application is very latency sensitive, it stops working.

I cannot sync through RDP connection. I have to sync on the notebook screen and move back to my desktop to work. This is a hard evidence to prove that the slow response is not only a psychological feeling. It is really too slow to make the Bloomberg login device failed through RDP session.I then log a service request at Lenovo website. On Monday June 12, somebody called me an left a voice message. I called back and talked with a gentleman Dario Sumlin.

I explained to him my situation. I granted him to access my compute remotely with 123rescue.com.

He played on my computer and check if I have most up-to-date driver and correct network set up. There is no problem for these.

He then told me that he needed to escalate to level 2 support and somebody would call me. Then, I waited for two days and nobody calls. Then, today (Jane 14), I call them.

They kicked me to premium software support at Philippine. I talked with a lady at Philippine who was basically an idiot and knew nothing.

She asked to repeat my problem and explained to her what is network switch, what is RDP and so on. They, she asked me to pay $99 for the service. She even knew fewer than I know, I do not think she could provide any assistance. I paid $3000 to buy a whole package which included both software and hardware, Lenovo should make sure it work as expected. Why should I paid more to make it work?

I can work with my $600 HP notebook, and thinkpad P51 just failed if I use it in the same way. It is not fair to ask me to pay more to make it work. I buy a computer, rather than a mother board, a CPU, a few RAM and SSD drive.

Lenonvo should make sure it works together. It is not only hardware.Anyway, as I do want to pay, they kick me back to warrantee service. They gave me another case number. I called and talked with a lady this time and explained everything again. And she asked to access machine again. I told her that her colleague had done so before. She insisted and I granted access to her.

She repeated what her colleague had done and found nothing wrong. She told me that this is a software issue and I need to contact the software support at Philippine again. But they just kicked me back.

I told her that was not going to work. Then, she asked me to contact the service department to return the notebook. However, Lenovo tested and certified windows 10 pro on this machine. And I also paid for the Windows 10 pro as part of my purchase price.

Also, Lenovo did not provide windows 7 pro as an option. I have no choice to use Windows 10. Actually, I have to spent a lot of efforts to make my program compile on windows 10. Now, I cannot return the machine also, otherwise, all my effort in last month would be wasted.
